ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia (AA) - Ethiopians gathered at the Turkish embassy in Addis Ababa on Monday to show their solidarity with the government and people of Turkey following Friday’s coup attempt.

“We did not sleep as we followed every bit of information after we had heard about the coup attempt in Turkey,” Suleiman Aragaw, a member of the Turkish Graduates Development and Coordination Association, said.

“We were engulfed by relatives, friends and acquaintances asking us what was happening in a country we have always considered our second home.”

Ahmed Seyyid, who works for an Ethiopian think tank based in Turkish capital Ankara, the Horn of Africa Strategic Center, said: “You can’t just abrogate a democratically elected and legitimate government through the use of force.”
