BRUSSELS (AA) – European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen on Sunday called on Iran to pursue a "credible diplomatic solution" following recent US strikes in the country.
"Now is the moment for Iran to engage in a credible diplomatic solution. The negotiating table is the only place to end this crisis," von der Leyen said on X.
She emphasized that "Iran must never acquire the bomb" and said stability in the Middle East must be a priority amid rising tensions.
"With tensions in the Middle East at a new peak, stability must be the priority. And respect for international law is critical," she added.
US President Donald Trump said early Sunday that American forces struck three Iranian nuclear sites in Fordo, Natanz and Isfahan.
The attacks marked the latest escalation in a US-backed Israeli military campaign against Iran since June 13, prompting Tehran to launch retaliatory attacks on Israel.
Israeli authorities said at least 25 people have been killed and hundreds injured in Iranian missile attacks.
Meanwhile, in Iran, 430 people have been killed and more than 3,500 wounded in the Israeli assault, according to the Iranian Health Ministry.
