ISTANBUL (AA) — Construction production in the EU fell 0.8% year-on-year in December, while it was slightly down 0.1% in the euro area, according to Eurostat data released on Thursday.
On the EU side, civil engineering grew 0.7% and the construction of buildings soared 0.6% while specialized construction activities were down 0.1% on an annual basis.
In the euro area, civil engineering jumped 2%, the construction of buildings rose slightly 0.1% while specialized construction activities dove 1.4%.
Romania saw the largest annual decrease in construction production, falling 12.9%, followed by Poland with a 9.9% decline and Austria with a 9.3% drop.
Conversely, Spain saw the highest increase in construction production, up 11.2%, followed by Czech Republic with a 9.7% rise and Slovakia with a 5.8% increase year-on-year in December.
Meanwhile, on a monthly basis, production in construction within the euro area remained stable but it rose 0.4% in the EU in December, the data showed.
On an annual average, construction production dove 1.3% in the EU and 0.9% in the eurozone in 2024 compared to 2023.
The eurozone/euro area, or EA20, represents member states that use the bloc's single currency, the euro, while the EU27 includes all of its member countries.
