BRUSSELS (AA) - The European Commission on Wednesday said that Elon Musk's tech company X is "carefully listening and acting” in response to the EU's Digital Services Act, as authorities assess its recent changes.

Speaking at the European Commission's midday briefing, spokesperson Thomas Regnier said the company has already implemented changes, which are now under close assessment by EU authorities.

"We are analyzing the changes that they have now put on the table before deciding on potential next steps," he said.

Regnier emphasized that X's recent moves align with the European Commission's vision of tackling illegal content online.

"X has recently themselves recognized and acknowledged the fact that there is a form of illegality online and that they're acting against illegal content. We welcome this very much," he added.

The commission stressed that any decision to open a formal investigation will be based on the evidence provided by the company and the ongoing assessment of its actions.

X’s artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot Grok has come under criticism following a social media trend in which users prompt Grok to modify or generate images of individuals in explicit portrayals without consent.

Musk, whose xAI developed Grok, said on Jan. 3 that users requesting the generation of illegal content would be treated as if they had uploaded illegal material themselves.
