BELGRADE, Serbia (AA) – The European Union will not set up a detention center for immigrants in the city of Bihac, Bosnia and Herzegovina, where the country is facing the most pressure from irregular migration, said the EU ambassador to the country on Thursday.
There is no question of opening a detention center for immigrants in the Lipa Migrant Camp near Bihac, Johann Sattler said after meeting with Mustafa Ruznic, prime minister of the Una-Sana Canton.
He added that there will be a small shelter “for 12 people, where people with problems can stay for up to 3 days. These people will then be sent to Lukavica, near (the capital) Sarajevo.”
The local media had reported this week that a detention center for migrants would be opened locally.
