ANKARA (AA) - Women in the EU continue to be under-represented among managers, although they are roughly half of total employment, the bloc's statistical office reported Thursday.

Nearly 9.4 million workers hold a managerial position as of 2017, Eurostat said, and about a third of managers were women.

"This share remained stable since 2012," the statistical office said on the occasion of International Women’s Day.

The largest share of women among managerial positions was recorded in Latvia with 56 percent -- the only EU member where women surpassed men.

Official figures showed the lowest figure was in Luxembourg where women accounted for just 15 percent of managers.

"In addition, women account for a little over one quarter of board members of publicly listed companies in the EU," it said.

Eurostat also noted that women's proportion among senior executives was only 17 percent last year.
