Eurasian nations report new coronavirus cases, deaths

Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Armenia and Georgia reported new COVID-19 cases over past 24 hours


BAKU (AA) - Health authorities in Eurasian countries reported more cases and fatalities from the novel coronavirus on Friday.

- Ukraine

Ukraine reported 1,732 new coronavirus cases, the highest daily spike in the country, bringing the total number of cases to 87,872, Health Minister Maksym Stepanov said.

At least 19 more people died of the virus over the past day, pushing the death toll to 2,011, Stepanov said.

Recoveries increased by 581 to reach the total of 46,797, while at least 300 people have been hospitalized.

Stepanov urged the public to strictly follow the government’s COVID-19 restrictions, which have been extended until Aug. 31.

- Kazakhstan

Kazakhstan reported 476 new cases of the coronavirus in the country, bringing the tally to 101,484, according to the Health Ministry.

The total number of recoveries reached 78,633, as 1,877 more patients recovered over the past 24 hours.

The death toll in the country rose to 1,356, with 21 additions over the past day.

More than 21,000 patients are currently under treatment in the country.

Pneumonia cases in the country increased by 934, bringing the total to 16,666. At least 198 patients died due to pneumonia.

The country is expected to ease COVID-19-related measures soon.

- Uzbekistan

Uzbekistan’s Health Ministry reported 468 more cases over the past day, bringing the overall count to 33,561.

Three more fatalities raised the death toll to 218, the ministry said.

Recoveries climbed by 943 to reach the total of 27,213.

At least 6,130 patients remain in hospitals, while some 100,000 people are under medical surveillance in Uzbekistan.

The country is likely to relax virus safety measures on Aug 15.

- Kyrgyzstan

Coronavirus infections in Kyrgyzstan have risen to 41,373, including 304 new cases, according to the Health Ministry.

Four people died over the past 24 hours, bringing the toll to 1,491, while 33,622 people have recovered from the virus since March 18.

Restrictions on mass activities and intercity travels continue in the country.

- Armenia

Armenia's COVID-19 case count swelled by 276 to reach 41,299, according to Health Ministry data.

Five more patients died over the past 24 hours, raising the death toll to 814, while recoveries are now up to 34,164.

6,321 coronavirus patients are currently being treated, official figures said.

- Georgia

At least 23 new cases were reported in Georgia over the past 24 hours, bringing the tally to 1,347, the Prime Minister's Office said.

The total number of recoveries in the country reached 1,085, with 12 additions over the past day.

The death toll in the country stands at 17, with 261 people under observation in hospitals.
