ISTANBUL (AA) – The European Medicines Agency (EMA) announced Friday that it will suspend its posts on the X platform.

"We have decided to take a break from X, but we want to keep talking about medicines and public & animal health with all of our followers," the agency said in a statement on X.

The statement also said that the agency's updates would now continue on the BlueSky platform.

Tensions between the EU and X owner Elon Musk started with Musk's posts praising the AfD party and targeting certain European politicians.

Musk's social media posts supporting far-right parties in Europe sparked backlash, with European leaders accusing the billionaire of interfering in elections and domestic affairs.

European politicians, members of the European Parliament, and experts have urged the EU to take action against Musk’s far-right endorsements on social media.

Previously many non-governmental organizations in Spain decided to leave X.

In a statement, the groups accused Musk of making X "a danger for democracy" by promoting discourses "based on the ideas of the far right" and interfering in other countries' elections such as in Germany.

"Social media platforms have never been perfect, but X's attitude is unacceptable for a social media platform where different positions should be treated equally," they added.
