European stock markets end mostly higher

Stoxx 600 up 0.28%, Germany's DAX climbs 0.36%, France's CAC adds 0.54%, while UK's FTSE falls 0.04%

ISTANBUL (AA) - European stocks closed the second trading day of the week with gains, except for the UK, boosted by new record highs in the New York Stock Exchange.

The pan-European Stoxx 600 index increased 0.28%, or 1.55 points, to close at 554.95.

Bank stocks gained an average of 0.75%, while automaker stocks rose an average of 1.81%.

Germany's DAX 40 index was up 0.36% to end at 23,611.33 and the CAC 40 in Paris climbed 0.54% to 7,872.02.

Italy's FTSE MIB index added 0.13% to close at 42,477.76 points, while Spain's IBEX 35 index rose 0.5% to close at 15,158.2.

On the other hand, Britain's FTSE 100 slipped 0.04% to close the day at 9,223.32 points.

The New York Stock Exchange saw all-time high gains Monday, led by gains in tech companies. The Dow Jones Industrial Average reached an all-time high of 46,447.13 points, the S&P 500 Index rose to 6,698.88, and the Nasdaq hit 22,801.90 points.

The euro/dollar exchange rate rose 0.04% to 1.1807 as of 1725GMT.
