Europe's annual inflation up in July

Malta, Greece, Italy post lowest annual inflation rates, while Estonia, Poland, Hungary saw highest rates

ANKARA (AA) - The annual inflation rate both in the EU and eurozone rose on a monthly basis in July, Eurostat announced on Wednesday.

The eurozone annual inflation rose to 2.2% in July versus 1.9% in June, versus just 0.4% a year earlier.

The highest contribution to the annual euro area inflation rate came from energy, then non-energy by food, alcohol & tobacco, services, and non-energy industrial.

EU annual inflation also climbed to 2.5% last month, up from 2.2% a month ago.

The lowest annual inflation rates were seen in Malta (0.3%), Greece (0.7%), and Italy (1%), while the highest were in Estonia (4.9%) followed by Poland and Hungary (both 4.7%).

​​​​​​​Compared to May, annual inflation fell in nine EU member states, remained unchanged in two, and rose in 16.
