ISLAMABAD (AA) - A fire and explosions at a firecracker factory in Karachi, Pakistan's southern port city, injured at least two dozen people on Thursday, officials said.
The explosion occurred after a massive fire broke out at the firecracker factory on MA Jinnah Road in Karachi's Saddar area, Rescue 1122 officials told the media on the scene.
According to officials, 24 people were injured and taken to a local hospital, with the majority of them suffering injuries from being hit by broken glass.
The fire caused heavy explosions inside the factory, damaging multiple vehicles parked outside and spreading panic throughout the densely populated commercial area.
Television footage showed flames engulfing the structure as firefighters struggled to control the situation.
The cause of the fire was not immediately determined, and police are investigating the incident.
Industrial accidents are common in Karachi, primarily due to inadequate safety standards.
