ISTANBUL (AA) - A federal agent was hospitalized after being assaulted during an anti-US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) protest in Downtown Los Angeles on Friday, authorities said, as demonstrations linked to a student walkout disrupted traffic and led to property damage.

The Los Angeles Police Department confirmed the incident and wrote on the US social media company X before 1 pm (2100GMT) that “LAFD responding to a Federal Agent who was injured during the incident.”

Police said individuals suspected of attacking the agent rejoined the marching crowd, while some participants allegedly vandalized the Federal Building and threw objects at officers.

Local outlets reported the rally was organized as a student walkout, with aerial footage showing demonstrators carrying American and Mexican flags and holding signs including “Honk if you hate Nazis.”

The injured agent was transported to a hospital, though officials did not disclose the person’s condition or confirm the agency affiliation.

Authorities also said it remains unclear whether any arrests have been made.
