ANKARA (AA) – Australian authorities arrested the son of Fijian Prime Minister Frank Bainimarama on domestic violence charges, local media reported on Monday.
Ratu Meli Bainimarama, 35, was arrested on Thursday in Queensland after the New South Wales police issued his arrest warrant, ABC News reported.
He was extradited to New South Wales on the same day and will appear in the Parramatta local court later this week, according to the report.
Ratu Meli, the only son of the Fijian prime minister, was living on a non-residential visa in Australia.
New South Wales Police said officers started inquiries after receiving a complaint relating to alleged domestic violence offenses, according to the report.
