ISTANBUL (AA) - At least 12 people were killed and three others injured in a fire that broke out at a rehabilitation center in Mexico’s central state of Guanajuato, local authorities said Sunday.
Officials said 23 people were inside the building at the time of the fire, with 12 killed, five injured, three of whom remain hospitalized, and three still unaccounted for, while three staff members escaped unharmed.
“Preliminary findings confirm that the fire started inside the dormitory, which was locked from the outside as part of the location’s internal regulations,” the Prosecutors Office of Guanajuato said in a statement on X.
“The identity of the likely responsible party has not yet been determined. It is being investigated whether they are among the deceased, injured, or uninjured individuals,” the statement added.
