WASHINGTON (AA) - All flights in and out of a Washington, DC airport were halted due to a reported bomb threat on a United Airlines flight, local media reported Tuesday.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said operations were halted after a reported "security issue."

"The FAA is aware of a reported security issue on an aircraft at Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA)," the agency said in a statement.

"Passengers have been removed, and the aircraft is away from the terminal while authorities investigate."

Later, the airport said the main runway had reopened at 12.50 pm local time (1750GMT).

"Flights are resuming," it added.
