Former Romanian minister arrested in Bulgaria over corruption

Elena Gabriela Udrea sentenced to 6 years in prison by Romania's Supreme Court, local sources report

ANKARA (AA) - Romania's former tourism minister was detained by the Bulgarian police on Thursday, according to media reports.

Elena Gabriela Udrea will serve six years in prison over charges of bribery, abuse of office, complicity in bribery, tax evasion and money laundering, Romania Journal news reported.

​​​​​​​The sentence was announced by Romania's Supreme Court.

"The woman was detained near the Kulata checkpoint at Bulgaria's border with Greece on a European Arrest Warrant issued by the Romanian authorities," Bulgarian News Agency said.
