PARIS (AA) - France bestowed the Legion of Honor, the country's highest award, to frontline workers for their commitment to the fight against COVID-19, including those who died in the line of duty.
They include doctors, general practitioners, nurses, epidemiologists; caregivers, managers, co-ordinators at elderly homes; administrative, maintenance staff, security guards at hospitals; technicians at medical labs, firefighters, and emergency helicopter pilots who have spent years working in public service.
Forty people who died due to COVID-19 were appointed to the rank of knight.
Among them are four foreign nationals who worked as nurses at care houses for elderly people.
