ISTANBUL (AA) - The French parliament passed a bill Wednesday to combat antisemitism in higher education, with a strong majority of lawmakers voting in favor of the proposed legislation.

The bill, “Combating Antisemitism in Higher Education,” was approved in the National Assembly in a 366 - 88 vote, marking its final adoption by parliament.

The bill mandates that universities provide students with education to counter antisemitism, racism, discrimination, violence and hate speech.

It also requires that a dedicated official be appointed within newly established “equality and diversity” offices at universities. The official will be tasked with identifying and preventing antisemitic and racist incidents on campus.

In addition, it obliges university administrations to promptly remove any antisemitic, racist, discriminatory posters or writings found on their premises.
