GAZA CITY, Palestine (AA) – Dozens of Palestinians staged a rally in the Gaza Strip on Wednesday to mark the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People.
Marked each year on Nov. 29, the day coincides with the anniversary of UN General Assembly Resolution 181, which called for the partition of Mandatory Palestine into Jewish and Arab states following the expiry of Britain’s Palestine Mandate.
The rally was held outside the UN office in Gaza City with protesters waving banners decrying the UN partition resolution.
“We are here today to reiterate our rejection of any resolution that gives the Zionist enemy any legitimacy in Palestine,” Ahmed al-Mudallal, a leader of Islamic Jihad group, told the rally, using the term Zionist to refer to Israel.
He called on the UN to “revoke any documents that grant Israel any right in the Palestinian territories”.
Al-Mudallal went on to call on the Palestinian Authority to “use all available tools to criminalize the Israeli occupation and work to end it”.
According to the UN, the day represents "an opportunity for the international community to focus its attention on the fact that the question of Palestine remains unresolved and that the Palestinian people are yet to attain their inalienable rights".
