ANKARA (AA) - A Georgian gold medalist judoka on Friday was disqualified from the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics for allegedly attacking a hotel security guard.
Kyodo News reported that after Japanese police arrested Zviad Gogotchuri, 34, on Monday, he was charged with breaking the security guard’s ribs.
On Friday, the organizing committee ejected him from the games.
The 2016 Paralympics gold medalist in men's judo 90 kg, Gogotchuri and many other Georgian athletes were reportedly warned by security over making too much noise at the hotel before Gogotchuri assaulted the guard.
Police said Gogotchuri was drunk at the time.
The Paralympic Games will kick off next Tuesday in Tokyo.
