BERLIN (AA) - The suspect who pushed a child and his mother in front of a train in Frankfurt’s had a criminal background in neighboring Switzerland, authorities said Tuesday.
Federal police chief Dieter Romann told reporters in Berlin that the 40-year-old Eritrean who was living in Switzerland since 2006, had been sought by Swiss police since last week for threatening his neighbor with a knife.
Romann said his motive remained unclear and refused to answer questions about the incident at Frankfurt main station.
The suspect pushed the 8-year-old and his mother onto the tracks and tried to flee the station before being arrested.
The boy was killed instantly. His mother managed to escape the incident with minor injuries.
