ISTANBUL (AA) - German unemployment rose 6.3% in July, according to Federal Employment Agency figures released Thursday.
The rate stood at 6.2% in June and May before falling from 6.3% in April.
The number of unemployed people rose by 2,000 month-on-month to 2.97 million in July.
On a yearly basis, the number of jobless people grew by 171,000, approaching the 3 million threshold.
Underemployment, which includes unemployment, labor market policy, and short-term incapacity for work, fell by 10,000 to 3.6 million in July.
On the other hand, according to Destatis, the monthly employment rate posted mostly no change in June on a monthly basis, with the number of employed people slightly falling 4,000 to 45.9 million.
Year-on-year, it also fell by 3,000 persons in June, according to the Destatis data.
