BERLIN (AA) - German Chancellor Friedrich Merz on Tuesday issued a stern warning to Iran, stating that refusing to return to diplomatic negotiations could lead to the "complete destruction" of its nuclear program.
In an interview with public broadcaster ZDF on day two of a G7 summit in Canada, Merz expressed strong support for Israel's airstrikes targeting Iran's nuclear program and military facilities.
“If the regime were willing to return to the negotiating table, then there would be no need for further military intervention. If not, then the complete destruction of Iran's nuclear weapons program may be on the agenda,” he said.
“And the Israeli army obviously cannot accomplish that because it lacks the necessary weapons, which the Americans do,” he added, suggesting possible US military intervention if diplomatic efforts fail.
