Germany: Police cordon off hostage standoff in Cologne

Residents urged to stay away from large area near Cologne Central Station amid reports of hostage taking

BERLIN (AA) - German police Monday afternoon closed off a large area near Cologne Central Station after a suspect took hostages at a pharmacy.

Authorities urged the public to stay away from Breslauer Square as special police forces were sent to the area.

Some parts of the train station were also closed off.

It was not immediately clear whether the incident was terror-related.
