ANKARA (AA) – Germany winger Leroy Sane on Tuesday picked up a knee injury to be unavailable for their 2022 FIFA World Cup Group E opener against Japan.
"Leroy Sane will miss tomorrow's (Wednesday) opening game against Japan with a knee problem. Get well soon, Leroy!" the German national football team said on Twitter.
The 26-year-old scored 11 goals in 48 international caps for Germany since 2015.
The 2014 world champions Germany will respectively play against Japan, 2010 winners Spain, and Costa Rica in the Qatar 2022 group stage.
