BERLIN (AA) – Germany has completed the delivery of 18 Leopard 2 battle tanks to Ukraine two months after the government greenlit the transfer, local media reported on Monday.

The last tanks left Germany at the end of last week and have been arrived in Ukraine, according to Der Spiegel news magazine.

Besides the tanks, approximately 40 Marder infantry fighting vehicles have also reached Ukraine, the report said.

The German government has not disclosed the exact route of the arms deliveries.

At the end of January, after much hesitation, the German government agreed to send battle tanks to Ukraine.

The tanks were expected to be handed over with an extensive package of weapons and spare parts.

Over the past two months, the German army has trained Ukrainian tank crews and soldiers tasked with operating the Marder vehicles.
