Germany's unemployment rate at 2.9% in March

Employment figures exceed pre-pandemic levels for 1st time

ISTANBUL (AA) - Germany's unemployment rate reached 2.9% in March 2022 the country's statistical department said on Monday.

Destatis announced that 1.26 million people were unemployed as of March 2022, decreasing 435,000 persons versus the same month of 2021.

It also said that there were 45.2 million employed people in Germany in March, exceeding pre-pandemic level of February 2020 for the first time.

"Compared with March 2021, the number of persons in employment was up by 1.6%, or 725,000, in March 2022.

"The last time employment showed such a year-on-year increase was almost 15 years ago, that is, in May 2007," the statisitcal department said.
