Unionists demand rise in salaries and support for low-income groups

ATHENS (AA) - Students and union members staged protests Thursday in the Greek capital Athens against a steep rise in the cost of living.

The protesters gathered in front of the Finance Ministry and marched to the Interior Ministry.

Unionists demanded a rise in salaries and support for low-income groups.

The students also protested against the government's decision to appoint police at universities starting this year.

Especially since Russia’s war in Ukraine, an energy crisis has caused an increase in the cost of living in Greece, including higher electricity and natural gas prices.
