The Palestinian resistance group, Hamas, hailed a decision Friday by Norway's powerful trade union to boycott and divest from companies that have ties to Israel, which continues a genocidal war against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.
Hamas commended the decision by "the Norwegian Confederation of Trade Unions (LO) to boycott the Zionist occupation and prohibit trade ties and investment with its companies."
It described LO's "courageous" decision and said it "embodies clear alignment with truth and justice, and a victory for the rights of our Palestinian people."
The group urged labor and trade unions worldwide to follow LO’s lead, and urged them to use "all available means to pressure and isolate this fascist entity, exposing its crimes against humanity."
While LO is yet to issue a statement on the decision, the union’s deputy leader Steinar Krogstad said last week that the country's $1.8 trillion sovereign wealth fund must divest from companies supporting Israel's occupation of Palestinian territories.
Nearly 52,800 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza in a brutal Israeli onslaught since October 2023, most of them women and children.
The International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants last November for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.
Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its war on the enclave.
