Temperatures are forecast to rise above 30°C (86°F) across central, southern parts of UK, says expert

LONDON (AA) - The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) and the Met Office have issued an amber heat-health alert for five regions of England on Monday.

The West Midlands, East Midlands, South East, London, and East of England will be under the alert from Tuesday until Wednesday.

In addition, a yellow alert has been issued for the North West and North East regions during the same period.

The South West and Yorkshire and the Humber regions are already under a yellow alert, which will continue.

An amber heat-health alert means that the heat is likely to affect the entire health service, with possible health problems across the population.

People over 65 years old or those with existing health conditions like respiratory or heart diseases are at higher risk.

Dr. Paul Coleman, consultant in public health at UKHSA, said in a statement: "Temperatures are forecast to rise above 30C (86F) across central and southern parts of the country over the next few days, and generally hot weather is expected across most regions of England."

"These kinds of temperatures can result in serious health outcomes across the population, particularly in those who are vulnerable, such as the elderly or those with serious health conditions," he added.

The public is advised to stay hydrated, avoid strenuous outdoor activities during the hottest parts of the day, and look out for signs of heat-related illness.
