KHARTOUM (AA) – At least 76 people have been killed and dozens of others injured by torrential rainfall that has hit Sudan in recent days, according to local media reports.

Health Ministry and civil defense officials cited by local media say that 13 of Sudan’s 18 provinces have so far been affected by the rains.

According to local media outlets, thousands of homes have been destroyed, while the Nile River has reached its highest level in more than a century.

In 2013, torrential rainfall and flooding caused the death of more than 70 people in poverty-stricken Sudan.
