BERLIN (AA) - A high-speed Intercity Express (ICE) train collided with a truck at a Hamburg crossing on Tuesday, injuring 12 people and forcing hundreds of passengers to evacuate, authorities said.
According to public broadcaster NDR, the incident occurred at a crossing in southern Hamburg when a truck carrying railway equipment was positioned on the tracks as the high-speed train approached. Though the train driver attempted emergency braking, the collision was unavoidable, authorities said.
Ten of the injured sustained minor injuries, while two required further medical treatment, the Hamburg Fire Department said in a statement on X.
Deutsche Bahn, Germany's national railway operator, confirmed that at least 279 passengers were on the train when the accident occurred. The rail line remained closed while crews cleared debris and evaluated infrastructure damage.
