ISTANBUL (AA) – Residential property sales in Türkiye dropped by 22.9% year-on-year in September, according to the latest official data released on Friday.
A total of 113,402 houses changed hands last month, down from 147,143 in September 2021, the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat) reported.
Mortgage house sales amounted to 16,970 in September, down 43% year-on-year.
Sales to foreign buyers fell by 23.8% to 5,049 units last month.
Istanbul had the lion’s share of sales to foreign buyers – 1,795 units, followed by the Mediterranean resort city of Antalya with 1,585 units.
Among foreign nationals, Russians bought the most houses with 1,196 units; it was followed by Iranians with 592 and Iraqis with 433.
From January to September, 1.06 million residential properties were sold in Türkiye, up 11.4% from the same period last year.
Sales to foreigners in the first eight months jumped 32.5% on an annual basis to 49,644, according to the data.
