Houthi rebels attack Saudi oil tanker off Yemen coast

Attack has caused "slight damage" in the Saudi tanker

RIYADH (AA) – Houthi rebels struck a Saudi oil tanker in the Red Sea on Wednesday, the Saudi television reported.

The attack has caused “slight damage” in the tanker, the television said, citing a statement by the Saudi-led coalition.

The statement, however, did not specify where exactly the attack took place.

The Houthi-run Al-Masirah television earlier said Houthi forces had attacked a Saudi warship off Yemen’s western coast.

Impoverished Yemen has remained wracked by violence since 2014, when Shia Houthi rebels overran much of the country, including capital Sanaa.

The conflict escalated in 2015 when Saudi Arabia and its Sunni-Arab allies launched a massive air campaign in Yemen aimed at rolling back Houthi gains.
