AMMAN (AA) - Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman al-Safadi and Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov on Tuesday discussed recent developments pertaining to Syria.
In a telephone conversation, the two FMs reportedly stressed the need to support international efforts aimed at “activating Syria’s political process”.
According to a statement released subsequently by Jordan’s Foreign Ministry, the two men also discussed the launch of a Syrian constitutional committee.
They also reportedly stressed the importance of repatriating displaced Syrians currently staying at Syria’s Al-Rukban refugee camp near the Jordanian border.
In a Tuesday statement, UNICEF said that 15 Syrian refugee children had died within the last month alone owing to severe weather conditions and a lack of medical care.
Syria has only just begun to emerge from a devastating conflict that began in 2011 when the Assad regime cracked down on demonstrators with unexpected severity.
