ANKARA (AA) — India has installed a 5G connectivity tower at the Siachen Glacier, the world’s highest battlefield, the country's army said.

In collaboration with Jio telecom, the Indian army’s Fire and Fury Corps successfully set up the first-ever 5G mobile tower on the glacier, located along the India-Pakistan border in the Ladakh region, the military said.

“This indomitable feat is dedicated to our brave soldiers deployed in challenging conditions,” it added.

The army noted that the installment of the 5G network at the north glacier has been completed despite harsh terrain and extreme temperatures, which drop below minus 40 C.

The Siachen Glacier has been the site of standoff positions between Indian and Pakistani forces since the early 1980s, marking it as a critical and contested frontier.
