NEW DELHI (AA) - India’s electric vehicle startup Vayve Mobility on Thursday presented a prototype of the country’s first solar car at the Auto Expo 2023 in Noida, Uttar Pradesh.

The car will be available for commercial use from early next year. The Vayve Eva is the first small electric smart car in India that is integrated with solar panels and an electric plug-in for charging.

It was unveiled at a time when India has committed to reducing Emissions Intensity of its GDP (Gross Domestic Product) by 45% by 2030, from 2005 level and achieve about 50% cumulative electric power installed capacity from non-fossil fuel-based energy resources by 2030.

The car comes with the option of solar panels on the roof, which recharge its battery when left out in the sun. The solar roof will be available separately.

It can comfortably seat two adults and a child, and is designed to enable consumers to commute through the traffic with ease.

According to the company, It has a 6 kW liquid-cooled PMSM electric motor which is good for 16 HP and 40Nm. It draws power from a 14 kWh battery pack that features Active Liquid Cool Technology and offers a range of 250 km on a single charge.

Eva can be connected via Apple CarPlay and Android Auto platforms. It has a 15A socket and takes about four hours to charge the battery up to 80 percentage. The Eva packs an IP68-certified power train.

The front suspension duties are handled by a Macpherson Strut with Coil Spring, while the rear suspension duties are taken care of by dual shock absorbers. The Eva has disc brakes at the front and drum brakes at the rear, said the company.
