NEW DELHI (AA) - Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday held a telephonic conversation with Donald Trump, a week after his inauguration as the US president.

"Congratulated him on his historic second term,” Modi wrote on X, expressing delight on his phone call with Trump.

“We are committed to a mutually beneficial and trusted partnership,” Modi said and added: “We will work together for the welfare of our people and towards global peace, prosperity, and security.”

Today’s conversation between both leaders was the first since US President Donald Trump's return to the White House on his second non-consecutive term.

Modi also spoke to Trump following his presidential election win last November.
