TUBAN, Indonesia (AA) - Indonesia has warned a meeting comprised of delegates from Turkey and other countries around the world that the global community needs to anticipate the return of terrorists to home shores to carry out acts of terror.
In an opening speech at the one-day International Meeting for Combating Terrorism (IMCT) in Nusa Dua, Bali, on Wednesday, Indonesia's coordinating political, legal and security affairs minister, Wiranto, said that such individual terrorists were a new phenomenon that all countries needed to meet the challenge of.
"The return of ISIS [Daesh] fighters to their respective countries has created a new phenomenon called lone wolves," he was quoted as saying by antaranews.com.
"The phenomenon is a new challenge that we need to anticipate."
He added that many were veteran of the fighting in Syria and Iraq, and others had been recruited by Daesh and become radicalized through indoctrination on social media
"It requires serious concerns and requires continued cooperation," he said.
The meeting hosted was attended by 20 countries, including Turkey, Pakistan, Australia, the United States, the Netherlands, France, Russia, China, New Zealand, India, the Philippines, Britain, Malaysia, Pakistan and Canada, along with members of ASEAN, the United Nations and Interpol.
