JAKARTA (AA) - Indonesia’s security minister was injured after being stabbed with a knife during his visit to a town on the island of Java, police said on Thursday.

The attackers -- one of them was a woman -- are said to be affiliated with Daesh terrorist group.

"Police have arrested one man -- identified as S.A. -- and one woman -- identified as F.A. -- following the incident,” said National Police spokesman Dedi Prasetyo at a press conference.

The incident occurred after Wiranto attended the inauguration of a university in Banten province.

According to Firmansyah, spokesman of Berkah Hospital, the former military general suffered “two deep wounds” in his stomach.

Wiranto, 72, was later rushed to a hospital in Jakarta by helicopter.

President Joko Widodo and Vice President Jusuf Kalla has visited Wiranto at the Gatot Subroto Army Hospital.
