Alexis Sanchez scores winning goal in extra time as Inter beat Juventus 2-1

ANKARA (AA) - Inter Milan won the 2021 Italian Super Cup on Wednesday evening, beating Juventus 2-1 at Milan's San Siro Stadium.

Juventus drew first blood in the 25th minute as US midfielder Weston McKennie scored a header in the box.

Spanish forward Alvaro Morata crossed the ball from the left to assist McKennie.

Inter were awarded a penalty kick in the 34th minute as Bosnian forward Edin Dzeko was fouled in the area.

Argentine forward Lautaro Martinez took a firm penalty to score from the white spot as Inter leveled the match.

The first half ended 1-1.

Neither team scored in the second half as the match went into extra time.

While everyone was expecting a penalty shootout, Inter's Chilean forward Alexis Sanchez scored the winning goal in the 121st minute.

Inter's Matteo Darmian intercepted a ball in the Juventus box, taking advantage of the Juve defense's mistake.

Then Sanchez controlled the ball to make a close-range finish as Inter clinched the Super Cup.

Sanchez was named the man of the match after the final whistle.

The 2021 Italian Serie A champions Inter won the Super Cup for the sixth time in history. The Nerazzurri last claimed it in 2010.

Meanwhile, the losing team, Juventus, are still the record winners of this trophy with nine victories in total.

Juventus last took the Italian Super Cup in 2020.
