TEHRAN (AA) - All flights from Iran to Iraq’s southern city of Najaf have resumed following recent disturbances at Najaf’s international airport, according to Iranian officials.
“All flights to Najaf have resumed; the situation has returned to normal,” Riza Jaferzade, a spokesman for Iran’s federal aviation agency, said Tuesday.
Last week, Iran suspended all scheduled flights to Najaf amid ongoing popular demonstrations in southern Iraq.
Demonstrators are protesting high unemployment, inadequate public services and chronic power shortages.
On Friday, hundreds of demonstrators stormed the Najaf airport to protest the alleged mismanagement of airport revenue.
