AMMAN (AA) – Iran has released three Jordanian fishermen held by Tehran for violating the country’s territorial waters, the Jordanian Foreign Ministry said Wednesday.

In a statement, ministry spokesman Sufian al-Qudah said Iranian authorities informed the Jordanian Embassy in Tehran with the decision.

The fishermen had been held by Tehran since late 2018 for entering the country’s territorial waters.

The spokesman said the fishermen were only fined “for illegally entering and fishing within Iranian territorial waters”.
