ISTANBUL (AA) – Iraqi and US forces killed five Daesh (ISIS) terrorists in a joint airstrike near Rawa, a town on the Euphrates River about 320 kilometers (199 miles) northwest of Baghdad, CENTCOM said in a statement on Saturday.

Iraqi Security Forces (ISF), supported by US Central Command (CENTCOM), conducted the airstrike in Iraq on Wednesday, killing five Daesh (ISIS) terrorists.

The operation near Rawa, located on the Euphrates River's north bank, was part of a larger campaign to defeat Daesh. The operation also resulted in the destruction of weapons, grenades, suicide explosive belts, and ammunition, CENTCOM wrote on X.

The Iraqi-led mission received technical support and intelligence from the Coalition Joint Task Force—Operation Inherent Resolve (CJTF-OIR) during the counterterrorism operation.

Despite US President Donald Trump's claim that ISIS was completely defeated years ago, CENTCOM argued that terrorist group remains a regional and global threat and vowed to continue efforts to dismantle its networks.

The US refers to the Iraqi federal government's law enforcement and military forces as the ISF.
