ANKARA (AA) – An Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) soldier was killed and two policemen were injured in an attack in Sistan and Baluchestan province in southeastern Iran, according to local media.
Gunmen attacked a security checkpoint in the city of Zahedan Wednesday night, police chief Mohammad Ghanbari said in statements cited by the semi-official Tasnim News Agency.
He said the attackers had fled the scene unscathed and an investigation has been launched into the attack.
Iran has been rocked by sweeping protests in recent months sparked by the death of a 22-year-old woman while in police custody in mid-September.
