Israel intercepts rocket fired from Gaza

Earlier on Friday, one Palestinian was killed and over 281 injured as Israeli troops dispersed protests

JERUSALEM (AA) - The Israeli army has intercepted a Palestinian rocket from Gaza following a day of violence between Palestinians and Israeli forces, Israeli media reported Friday.

According to Israeli daily Yedioth Ahronoth, "code red" rocket sirens were heard in the sha'ar HaNegev, Hof Ashkelon and Eshkol Regional Councils, followed by massive explosions.

It later added that the Iron Dome air defense system had intercepted a rocket launched from the Gaza Strip.

Earlier on Friday, one Palestinian was killed and over 281 injured when Israeli troops used force to disperse demonstrations held across the Palestinian territories.

After Friday prayers, thousands of Palestinians rallied in the Gaza Strip, the West Bank and East Jerusalem to protest a decision by U.S. President Donald Trump -- announced earlier this week -- to recognize Jerusalem as Israel's capital.
