ISTANBUL (AA) – Israel summoned the Polish ambassador to Tel Aviv on Tuesday for an official reprimand over remarks by Poland’s prime minister accusing Israel of deliberate starvation of children and women in Gaza.

Polish Premier Donald Tusk said on Sunday that his country will never be “on the side of politicians whose actions lead to hunger and the death of mothers and children. This must be obvious to nations that together went through the hell of World War II.”

According to the Times of Israel news portal, Polish Ambassador Maciej Hunia was summoned by the Israeli Foreign Ministry to reprimand him over Tusk’s statements.

Israel has been facing mounting outrage over its destructive war on Gaza, where more than 61,000 people have been killed since October 2023. The military campaign has devastated the enclave and brought it to the verge of famine.

According to Gaza’s Health Ministry, at least 188 people, including 94 children, have died from starvation and malnutrition since October 2023.

Last November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.

Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its war on the enclave.
