Israel to launch military drill near Lebanon border on Monday

Army says exercise does not stem from any security assessment

By Ahmed Asmar

ANKARA (AA) – The Israeli army will launch a military exercise near border with Lebanon on Monday, according to the military.

A military spokesman said the three-day drill is pre-planned and does not stem from any security assessment.

According to the statement, explosions may be heard throughout the military exercise.

Israeli media earlier reported that the drill comes amid reports about Iranian attempts to smuggle weapons into Lebanon aboard civilian planes.

Last week, the Lebanese authorities denied reports about the transfer of weapons by Iran to Lebanese group Hezbollah via Rafiq Hariri airport in Beirut.
