JERUSALEM (AA) – The Israeli military said it opened fire on gunmen who attempted to cross into the occupied Syrian Golan Heights late Sunday.
"Our soldiers have spotted suspected gunmen crossing 'Alpha' Line into Israel near the Syrian border fence in the Golan Heights," the army said in a Monday statement.
"In response, our forces fired at them," the army added without disclosing further details.
The army said it is committed with Israel-Syria Separation of Forces Agreement inked in 1974.
For several months, the Israeli army has been in a state of alert in the occupied Golan Heights which has been under Israeli occupation since 1967.
