Soldiers storm family home of Qusai Maher Halaika, who was shot and killed earlier near Jerusalem

RAMALLAH, Palestine (AA) - The Israeli army carried out raids late Wednesday in the occupied West Bank, including on the home of a Palestinian it killed earlier in the day, detaining a number of people.

Israeli forces raided the town of Sa’ir northeast of Hebron, according to the Palestinian official news agency Wafa.

The soldiers also stormed the family home of Qusai Maher Halaika, who was killed earlier in the day near Jerusalem, in the al-Kaffan area, where they conducted searches.

Israeli forces damaged property inside the house and detained and beat family members, the report said.

The soldiers sealed off the area completely, forced shop owners to close their stores and questioned some young men who were stopped, it added.

The Palestinian Civil Affairs Authority said in a statement early Tuesday that Halaika, 28, from the town of Shuyukh in Hebron, was shot dead by Israeli soldiers and that his body was being withheld by Israel.

The Israeli army said it shot Halaika, claiming he had attempted to carry out a stabbing attack at a checkpoint south of Jerusalem.

According to Palestinian figures, Israeli forces and illegal settlers have killed at least 1,109 Palestinians in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, and injured nearly 11,000 others since October 2023.

The International Court of Justice declared Israel’s occupation of Palestinian territory illegal in a landmark opinion in July 2024 and called for the evacuation of all settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.
